Project: Organic Unity App

For this project we were to create a learning object. A description of a learning object would be a progression of steps that lead to an end result

The concept for this project was to design an app that explained the basic fundamentals of design to new art students. It is designed to take them through the three components of design/art. The three components are: Form, Content, and Subject. As they go through the the Organic Unity app they will be given examples on how each component works in a art/design project.

One of the goals for this project is to help students determine what makes good design not only in the work of others but also in the their own work, giving them the correct terminology and understanding and also aiding them to talk about an artwork.

The idea for this learning object was inspired by the textbook that the first-year art students use, Art Fundamental by Ocvirk, Stinson, Wigg, Bone, Cayton.

While creating the design for this app, I wanted to make sure the audience would be able to stay engaged with the information, so it was important to include visual imagery along with the written content. There was a great deal of work in the code, making sure that there were not conflicts with how the code was written or how the graphics were imported. A great deal of content which could be video, audio, interactivity, could be included in the app but realized that too much could probably be overwhelming for the viewer. This confirmed to me that this app would function best at a basic level. The research for this project was very important since I had not created an app before. It gave me a good understanding how an app works and the different components that are included in a working app. The process of using wireframes in my sketch process help with the design and layout while the understanding of how an app works helped with its function.

When completed, this became a working app that could be installed on an iPad.
