Relief, intaglio, lithography, screen printing, and artists’ books.
There’s no Printmaking I. Start with intaglio or relief, and plan with your advisor, since most courses run once a year.

Printmaking covers relief, intaglio, lithography, and screen printing, plus artists’ books. Students build the technical skills for each process while working in both contemporary and historical contexts.

Plan around the rotation

Several printmaking courses are offered once a year, and two only every other year. Plan intaglio and lithography early.

FALL OF SOPHOMORE YEARART 298 Portfolio ReviewZero credit hours, pass/fail, offered each fall. Take it once you have finished Drawing I and II (ART 134, 234), Design I and II (ART 233, 240), and ART 111 or 112, and while you’re taking or have finished ART 362 Printmaking: Intaglio. Passing it gets you into the BFA program and is required before any 400-level studio.

FALLART 350 Screen PrintingThe catalog lists ART 343 Graphic Design II as the prerequisite, which looks like an error. Ask the instructor before planning around it.

Choose six hours. Screen Printing fills quickly and is offered once a year, so register as early as you can.

Getting into the BFA program

Pass Portfolio Review in the fall of your sophomore year, with at least a 2.50 GPA overall and a 3.00 in the major. You also need a C or better in every major course. Foundations covers what to take first.
