JSU Art & Design is proud to spotlight Patrice Anderson, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design, for her new brand identity for @paintrockrc, Paint Rock Research Center. The identity now carries through the center’s website (https://paintrock.org), built by Communications Director Kelsey Barnett-Fischels.
Kelsey shared the center’s excitement about the new look:
“We wanted a logo that captured the unique and varied landscapes of Paint Rock—our vital river and streams, our caves and karst, our plateaus and the layers of forests in-between. That, plus we wanted a sense of the deep time that has greatly shaped this place and influences the biodiversity we now have. We were blown away with the three branding options Patrice presented and had the hardest time choosing just one to go forward with. We truly appreciate her time, thoughtfulness, and talent on this project.”
Anderson considers it some of her best work and credits “Bill, Beth, my students’ initial work, and the place itself. If I didn’t feel such a connection to PRRC, I don’t think the work would have been as easy to express.” Bill Finch is the center’s Founding and Executive Director, and Beth Maynor Finch is a conservation photographer.
Anderson would also like to give credit to her students in ART 434, Graphic Design Workshop. Earlier work produced by these students helped to shape the final Paint Rock brand identity we see today.
Thank you to our students for their early contributions and to Paint Rock Research Center for the continued collaboration and support—and a massive congratulations to Patrice Anderson on her incredible work.
It is work like this that deepens the relationship between Department of Art + Design at Jacksonville State University and the Paint Rock Research Center, bringing forth unique and interconnected educational, art, science, and conservation opportunities. Stay tuned for an announcement about our upcoming 2027 Artist-in-Residence program at Paint Rock!
